Our Early Years Intent
At Overchurch Infant School our Early Years Foundation Stage is built on secure, trusting relationships between children, adults and parents. We understand that a strong home school partnership is crucial in developing the whole child.
Our environments are accessible, neutral and child-centred. Children access resources with increasing independence and our highly skilled staff nurture curiosity through quality interactions.
Learning is based around well chosen picture books that act as a ‘hook’ to develop project based learning on a journey that follows children’s interests as well as key themes and topics. Quality role play, stories, poems and rhymes are embedded throughout our play based curriculum developing communications skills and vocabulary in all areas.
Our young children are all unique and develop rapidly during their infant years so we know that it is vitally important to lay the foundations to build happy, inquisitive and active learners. We encourage the children to ‘choose it, use it and put it away’.
Welcome to EYFS at Overchurch!
At Overchurch Infant school we aim to provide the highest quality care and education for all our children, thereby giving them a strong foundation for their future learning. We create a safe and happy environment with motivating, enjoyable and engaging learning experiences that enable children to become confident, independent and resilient learners.
All adults focus on the children’s interests and provision reflects this both indoors and outdoors. We recognise that children develop at varying rates and we value the individual child by working alongside parents and other stakeholders. This ensures that every child is able to reach their full potential.
The Foundation stage at Overchurch Infant School consists of a Nursery class catering for both 30 and 15 hour provision and three reception classes. The Teachers and Teaching assistants work closely together to ensure that teaching and learning are fun, progressive and personalised to the needs of individual children and groups of children alike.
All staff within the Foundation Stage strive to develop and foster positive attitudes towards learning, confidence, communication and physical development and through celebrating mistakes we enhance and develop resilience within children.
